First post

Greetings and welcome to our new blog! Hopefully, the inauguration of this site will be in conjunction with updates to our website www.northeastucc.com. This blog will most likely serve as an outlet and place of discussion for the members of Northeast United Church of Christ in Lincoln, NE, but feel free to browse and comment if you just happened upon it. Please excuse the bare bones look of this site, hopefully we'll be adding some creativity in the near future.

Your humble Admin,

Gene

I just got back from the annual meeting. Susan Smith spoke who was a pastor , many years ago,at Trinity UCC in Chicago . She spoke a lot about the black church and the different experiences that African Americans have in the US. At the same time she was speaking, Hillary was giving her concession speach. I couldn't help but feel a bit teary and proud and excited that Barak Obama is running for president. Maybe the time for change is finally happening. The question is, how involved is God, is the church and the movement of the spirit involved in the process of politics? I do, in some way, feel that something new is breaking into the world.Yet, at the same time, I am very careful in this hope, because we live in a diverse country, where there is a separation of church and state.

I would say that God is as involved as we want him to be in every level of government. If we're going to choose narcissist candidates to run our government in the hopes that they'll protect our way of life and status quo, then God isn't very involved at all. If we choose candidates that embody not our status quo but the way we truly desire to live, then maybe moreso.
